Stay With Us

Eligibility

Our Ronald McDonald House is a place of comfort, specifically for pediatric children (ages 0-21, unmarried and using parent’s address as permanent address) and their families who need to stay close while their child receives medical care.

Guest families must reside at least 25 miles away. Guests must be at least 18 years of age or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Rooms are available for immediate family members (Mom, Dad, siblings, grandparents and legal guardians) with a limit of one room per family.

First Time Guests

First-time guests must receive a referral through their healthcare provider or social worker. The hospital social worker/doctors office representative will then ask some questions to make sure our House is a good fit.

It is advised that guests call the House the day of their referral, prior to their arrival, to confirm that we have a room available and complete health screening questions. Please note that a referral does not guarantee room availability. When a room is not available, you will be put on a waiting list.

Once your referral is confirmed we will schedule an agreeable time for your check-in.

A referral is also required from your healthcare provider or social worker for each return visit. Please call to confirm that a room is available on the day of your referral, prior to your arrival and to complete health screening questions.

If you are within a year of your last stay you are not required to complete a new application, but you will be required to sign paperwork at check-in. It is your responsibility to notify us if any of your information has changed.

Admittance of eligible guests is based on a priority system:

  1. Oncology patients
  1. Inpatients and all pre-term high-risk pregnancies
  1. Pediatric outpatients

FAQs

How can I get a referral to stay at the Ronald McDonald House?

Referrals can only be made through a social worker or medical professional at the hospital or clinic where the patient is being treated. Once the referral has been processed and approved, one of our staff members will contact you with instructions and details.

To stay at one of our Ronald McDonald Houses, families must:

  • Have a child (ages 0-21, unmarried and using parent’s address as permanent address) who is receiving medical care at an Atlanta-area hospital or medical center;
  • Live 25 miles or more from the hospital or medical center;
  • Be at least 18 years of age or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian; and
  • Be referred by a hospital social worker

Siblings are allowed, but all children must be supervised by a parent or guardian in the House at all times. The hospital may have restrictions on the ages of visiting siblings – be sure to check on restrictions to ensure supervision coverage.

No one is required to pay to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. We want families to be able to focus on the health and well-being of their children and not worry about the cost of their living expenses. Some guests make donations to Ronald McDonald House when they check out and/or return home.

On average, guests stay for 14 nights at the House. Stays can range from one night to several months.

As long as the child is still receiving treatment, there is no limit on how long families can stay.

In the event of a waiting list, accommodations are prioritized based on each family’s medical needs and circumstances.

The House offer a private room, with two queen size beds and a private bathroom. Community spaces include kitchen, a stocked pantry, laundry rooms, activity rooms, play rooms, and family lounges.

Services we provide include, but are not limited to, cleaning supplies, toiletries, snack packs, welcome bags, home cooked meals, free parking, Wi-Fi, towels, blankets, and other linens, as well as washer and dryer machines with complimentary laundry detergent.

Limited shuttle service is provided to and from Carilion Memorial Hospital.
